Namibia Motorcycle Tour - 14 Days

The Namib is one of the largest and most unique natural creations on the planet.

It’s the smallest but oldest desert in the world, with one of the highest sand dunes, right in front of the ocean.

A mythical place for off-road enthusiasts.

At first it’s an adrenalin rush crossing the world’s highest sand dunes, but as the tour continues, the Namib has much more in store for its visitors…

As the Namib has moderate temperatures and a pleasant climate, this excursion can be enjoyed at any time of year.

Details of our Motorcycle Tour in Namibia

Day 1

Cape Town

Welcome to Cape Town!

After collecting your luggage, your driver will be waiting for you at arrivals. You will then head for your hotel.

Day 1

Day 2

Cape Town – Clanwilliam

On this first day, we head north towards the Cederberg mountains, famous for their rock formations.

You’ll cross Bain’s Kloof Pass, a mountain pass on the R301 regional road between Wellington and Ceres in South Africa’s Western Cape province.

The pass reaches 594 metres at its highest point. Here, the road joins the Witte River, which flows down the northern slope of the mountains through a steep cleft to an expanse of rapid waterfalls and natural pools. The Bainskloof Pass is now a national monument.

You’ll pass through the small village of Ceres, nestled in an orchard-covered valley, before taking the track through the mountains to Cederberg Ridge.

Day 2

Day 3

Clanwilliam – Namaqualand

After a beautiful first stage, you’ll head north along pretty tracks along the N7 to Goegap Nature Reserve, where you’ll set up camp for the night, in the middle of nowhere.

Day 3

Day 4

Namaqualand – Orange River

Today, the great adventure begins, with the crossing of the Ai-Ai/ Richtersveld Transfrontier Park, on the border with Namibia. You’ll find yourself in the middle of wild, desolate lands, amid lunar landscapes and imposing mountain ranges!

You’ll spend the night at your riverside Rest Camp, where a delicious dinner awaits you!

Day 4

Day 5

Orange River – Fish River Canyon

Today, you’ll head to the Namibian side of Transfrontier Park, where you’ll find the world’s second largest canyon. A large space offering one of the best views of Fish River Canyon, where you’ll catch your breath at the sight of such incredible immensity: far below, huge gorges wind through the rocky landscape.

The Fish River Canyon is around 160 km long, 27 km wide and 500 m deep. So, not only is it one of Namibia’s three main attractions, it’s also considered the second largest canyon in the world – after the Grand Canyon in the USA.

Day 5

Day 6

Fish River Canyon – Aus

You will leave Fish River Canyon in the morning. Your destination for the day is Aus, 130 kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean, a small historic town close to the Atlantic Ocean, nestled among mountains and sandy plains. The place has a charm all of its own!

Day 6

Day 7

Aus – Sesriem

Today, 360 km of track awaits you in the Namib, with a stopover in Sesriem. The journey may seem long. After all, five hours on the track isn’t easy! But the road is part of the journey, and the landscape offers so many wonders that you won’t find the time long! You’ll come across nests of social republicans (passerines), which can weigh up to 900 kg and are home to 500 individuals.

You’ll cross the Khomas Hochland with its many passes. It’s a semi-arid zone with alternating medium-sized massifs, pebbles and sand, with hardy trees and shrubs and a few oases. You’ll come across domestic herds as well as Oryx, ostrich and antelope. The landscape that unfolds is made up of huge areas fenced off on either side to prevent animals from getting in or out.

Day 7

Day 8

Sesriem – Swakopmund

Departure 334 kms towards Swakopmund via Solitaire!

You’ll take the track on the road to Solitaire in the Khomas Hochland, with its “Bagdad Café” atmosphere that will take you back to the 1960s. Here, you’re in the middle of nowhere, and at the same time, this place is a strategic supply point for locals, backpackers and tourists of all kinds!

You’ll find a petrol station, which has its uses, and the succulent Mac Gregor’s Bakery. This small town lies at the junction of the C14 (Walvis Bay – Bethanie) and C24 (Rehoboth – Sossusvlei) roads. These two roads are important tourist routes through the Namib-Naukluft National Park.

Day 8

Day 9

Swakopmund – Windhoek

This morning, you’ll head for Windhoek. The route takes you through arid desert landscapes that will blow your mind!

It’s in the capital that you’ll spend the night.

Day 9

Day 10

Windhoek – Kalahari Namibia

Today, 260 kms await you to reach Bagatelle Kalahari, via Rehobot Baster and Kalkrand, a small village on the B1 national highway between Rehoboth and Marienthal.

You’ll pass the Tropic of Capricorn and arrive in the Kalahari Desert, meaning “place without water”. It is improperly called a “desert” because its rainfall level places it more in the semi-arid zone.

Day 10

Day 11

Kalahari – Keetmanshoop

This track day takes you across a plain created by the collapse of a plateau. You’ll walk along the railroad line.

And I don’t know which accompanies the other: the railroad that accompanies the road, or the road that follows the railroad… You’re going to travel a long way together on this desert plain, and every now and then you’ll catch a glimpse of a few houses and a railway station.

Day 11

Day 12

Keetmanshoop – Orange River

After a good night’s rest, you’ll be back on the road, heading for the Orange River, which you were lucky enough to encounter at the start of your journey. This is your chance to admire the landscape once again!

Day 12

Day 13

Orange River – Namaqualand

Today, you’ll be passing through Namaqualand, along roads lined with wheat fields, orange groves, grape crops and rooibos tea. You’ll pass through totally different landscapes, from green hills to dry, treeless land, and then rocky mountains!

Day 13

Day 14

Namaqualand – Cape Town

Early start for Cape Town! A big day of motorcycling as you cross the Cedergerg again, but this time from north to south, passing through Algeria and the Cederberg Wines vineyards.

We stop off at Rierbeek-Kasteel, one of South Africa’s oldest towns. It is located 80 km northeast of Cape Town, in the Riebeek valley, along with its sister town, Riebeek West.

After lunch, we head for Cape Town to return the bikes.
