Details of our Karoo Motorcycle Tour

Day 1

Cape Town – Swellendam

Welcome to Cape Town!

First day, heading for Swellendam, you’ll have the chance to visit several verdant wine-growing areas in the Hemel en Aarde valley, near Hermanus, a world-renowned whale-watching town.

You’ll then enter the small town of Caledon, with the Swartberg mountain range in the background.

Day 1

Day 2

Swellendam – Prince Albert

After a good night’s rest, you’ll head for Prince Albert. All along the way, you’ll be able to admire the small towns bordered by mountain passes and rocky paths that you’ll follow!

You’ll arrive in the village of Prince Albert, renowned for its long shadows and honey-coloured light, where your charming accommodation awaits!

Day 2

Day 3

Prince Albert – Twanka Karoo

After a good night’s sleep and a hearty breakfast, you’ll head back to Gannaga Lodge, bypassing the Tankwa Karoo National Park.

Tankwa Karoo National Park is a national park in South Africa. The park lies around 70 km west of Sutherland, close to the border between the Northern Cape and the Western Cape, in one of South Africa’s driest regions, with an average annual rainfall of less than 100mm.

Day 3

Day 4

Twanka Karoo – The West Coast

It’s here, on the West Coast, that you’ll head after a hearty breakfast.

You’ll take a pretty gravel pass along the east/west axis through the mountains between the agricultural areas along the R365 to the west, with the Kransvleikloof pass to the east, close to the N7 in the Sandveld region on the west coast. The region is well known for potato production and in this kloof, with its own micro-climate, many farms also produce citrus products, similar to the Olifants river valley a few kilometers further east.

You’ll reach Eland’s Bay, where you’ll spend the night!

Day 4

Day 5

The West Coast – Cederberg

Head north towards the Cederberg mountains, famous for their rock formations.

You’ll cross Bain’s Kloof Pass, a mountain pass on the R301 regional road between Wellington and Ceres in South Africa’s Western Cape province.

The pass reaches 594 metres at its highest point. Here, the road joins the Witte River, which flows down the northern slope of the mountains through a steep cleft to an expanse of rapid waterfalls and natural pools. The Bainskloof Pass is now a national monument.

Day 5

Day 6

Cederberg – Montagu

To round off your trip in style, take Route 62, a relaxing and visually stimulating way to travel from city to city!

The route you follow immerses you in an ever-changing landscape of open spaces, rivers, orchards and magnificent passes.

This is where you’ll spend your last night, in accommodation where the environment is conducive to relaxing this motorcycle adventure!
